The Truby leadership philosophy

Why Profit-Driven Leadership?

Who ties profit to leadership? Almost no one — and that's the problem.

Most organizations try to improve profit by focusing on what's closest to it: results, operations, systems, or processes. But profit can be lost much further upstream. Weak leadership creates problems in how people work together and how work gets done — problems that quietly drain profit long before they appear on a financial statement.

The Truby approach takes a different path. For more than 40 years, we've started further upstream — with the people who lead and do the work. Strengthen leadership and you strengthen the teams, operations, and results that ultimately drive profit.

See It Differently | Do It Differently

Much of Truby leadership development centers on mind shifts. Often, you don't need another technique or more information. You need a different way of seeing something you already encounter every day.

When your perspective changes, what you do often changes with it. Sometimes leadership development isn't about learning something new — it's about seeing what you already know differently, so you can do what you already do differently.

The Truby Management System

At the heart of the Truby leadership philosophy is the Truby Management System (TMS) — a practical framework for building the people, teams, and operations that ultimately drive organizational success.

The system follows four phases and eight steps in a deliberate order. It begins by building the human foundation — transforming individuals into a team and establishing how they will work together — before organizing the work, mobilizing the team toward shared outcomes, and developing the systems that support efficiency and continuous improvement.

The order matters. Strong processes and systems are much more likely to work — and last — when the people responsible for them have first learned how to work together.

The Person Behind the Leader

Leadership doesn't happen separately from the person doing the leading. How you think, communicate, respond to pressure, understand yourself, and relate to others inevitably influences how you lead. And what happens at work affects what happens at home.

That's why personal development has always been part of the Truby approach. These ideas are woven throughout our leadership content and training, with additional Personal Development content available for those who want to explore themselves, their perspectives, patterns, and personal growth more deeply.
from philosophy to practice

Leadership Development Training

These ideas run throughout Truby's leadership content. Some resources introduce or expand on the philosophy and Truby Management System. Others develop specific leadership skills or provide a complete path to develop as a leader and put the system into practice.

Wherever you enter, the underlying philosophy and system remain the same — but how you engage with the site and the content available to you may be different based on where you are in your leadership journey.

Understand the Approach

Two resources offer different ways to explore the Truby leadership philosophy and Management System. Both provide practical ideas and mind shifts you can put to work immediately. TMS Revealed offers a short, guided introduction to the complete framework, while Curing Leadership Insomnia explores its principles in greater depth through stories, examples, and insights.

Each stands on its own and can be useful at any point in your leadership development. For leaders looking for more comprehensive development and implementation, the Profit-Driven Leadership Training takes these principles much further.

TMS Revealed

A 60-minute online course introducing the Truby leadership philosophy and walking you through the four phases and eight steps of the TMS. See how the complete framework fits together and identify practical ideas you can begin using right away.

Curing Leadership Insomnia

A leadership book that explores the principles behind the TMS through stories, examples, and practical insights. Dig deeper into the thinking behind the eight steps and how they apply to everyday leadership situations.

Develop and Implement

For leaders ready to go beyond understanding the approach, the Profit-Driven Leadership Training (PDLT) Program is our comprehensive leadership development and implementation program. It combines the complete TMS with the leadership skills, mind shifts, tools, and resources needed to put it into practice.

Delivered over one year, the training is designed to create meaningful change over time — not simply introduce concepts. Leaders work through the TMS while developing how they lead, communicate, build teams, establish accountability, solve problems, and improve the operations they manage.
